The Kumejima Museum is2000It is a relatively new facility that opened in June (Heisei 12).

It was originally called the “Kumejima Nature and Culture Center.”

The exhibition is organized around four themes: “Kumejima’s Nature,” “The Changing Times,” “Kumejima’s Treasures,” and “Life on the Island.”

With a wide range of resources available that can also be used for research and study, this is perfect for anyone who wants to learn more about Kumejima!

There are also many farming tools, fishing gear, and everyday items used by the islanders on display.

The display of the "shushikame"—which serve as urns—is also well worth seeing, and many visitors seem to be captivated by the beauty of their decorations.

 

"Bingata Curtain," a Valuable Cultural Property

Inside the museum is a “Bingata Curtain" is stored there.

It is considered the oldest surviving Bingata piece in Okinawa Prefecture, andOkinawa Prefecture Designated Tangible Cultural PropertyIt's specified there.

In 2018 (Heisei 30), a restoration project based on scientific research and analysis was also carried out.
